62,775 Europeans died from heat in a single summer. Most were at home, alone, with no warning. Unlike generic city-wide weather alerts that treat everyone the same, HeatSafe knows that a 78-year-old on the top floor taking diuretics faces a completely different risk to her neighbour downstairs.

Users input their age, health conditions, medications, floor level, and building orientation. The algorithm combines these personal factors with live hyperlocal temperature data from Open-Meteo, adjusted per city district using calibrated heat zone offsets. When a person's risk score reaches a critical threshold, HeatSafe automatically sends a personalised SMS alert to their nominated carer or family member with specific guidance, before the heat becomes an emergency.

The platform also includes a city planner dashboard that overlays anonymised vulnerability clusters on an interactive thermal map, helping municipalities prioritise emergency interventions. Every risk factor in the algorithm is grounded in peer-reviewed epidemiological research.

HeatSafe won the 2025 CHARM-EU Cross-University Ideathon (100+ participants, 20 teams) and addresses SDG 3 (Good Health), SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities), SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities), and SDG 13 (Climate Action).
